Believe it or not but BILLIONS of dollars are spent in the US each year towards weight loss. Some estimates say it can be as high as 60 billion, which is mind blowing.

So the question is, why is the US population continuing to become less healthy in spite of the BILLIONS spent on weight loss? Well, to be blunt, it’s because most of the products, fitness programs, diets, etc. addressing weight loss don’t actually work. If they did, the US population would not be struggling this badly with weight loss.

Below are the 6 reasons why you can’t lose weight…by avoiding the stumbling blocks listed below you can save a lot of headaches.

1. You Don’t Eat Enough

Huh?? I don’t eat enough?? Sure, some of you reading this are overeating but you know who you are. Your portions are outrageous and the quality of food is often poor. That said, most women, probably 7 out of 10 women we train, are UNDER EATING. Yes, your body desperately needs key nutrients, minerals and vitamins to ensure your body is functioning at its max potential. For years women have been told to restrict, calories or “points” to lose weight, which is only partially true. Sure, restrict the processed foods but you also need to add far more whole foods to the plan. Starve your body of key nutrients (vegetables, protein, healthy fats, etc.) and you’ll get weight loss in the early stages but watch what happens if you continue depriving your body. As most of you have found out, everything stops and you hit the world’s longest weight loss plateau. Your body needs food, the right kind of food and often. Food is not the issue, it’s the lack of key nutrients that may be the #1 reason your body is sluggish, weak, tired and overweight. While we would need an entire post to discuss the issues that occur when you stop eating key nutrients, just know that your metabolism can take a significant blow if you restrict your nutrients long enough.

2. You Don’t Sleep Enough

Let’s start with the most rampant problem standing in the way of your fat loss. Most adults simply do not get adequate sleep to support weight loss. There is a scientific reason for this, and it has everything to do with hormone levels. While you sleep your cortisol levels decline while your growth hormone levels increase. This balance is essential for fat loss to occur.

3. You Don’t Drink Enough Water

Most of us are walking around in a state of partial dehydration everyday. In addition to being dangerous for all of your major body organs, dehydration is perilous for fat loss. By sipping on water throughout the day you’ll avoid dehydration and will find it easier to move the number on your scale in a favorable direction.

4. You Don’t Plan Your Food

As we always say at Fuse, random never works, especially when it comes to your fitness and food. If you want the best results possible, plan your food for the next 7 days, go shopping then come home and prep. Make it simple because it works. Without a plan your weight loss is a mere dream that is likely to never come true.

 5. You Have No Accountability

We’ve must of heard it a millions times, “I know exactly what I have to do, I just don’t do it.” Knowing the general overview of how to do something does not mean one can actually do it independently. The thousands of overweight/obese adults living in the US know that whole foods are good and processed foods are bad but that rarely gets them to eat healthy.

6. Your Training Is Hurting You

Are you 30+ living a busy life as a professional and/or parent? Then you need to train like that’s the case. Sure, if you’re in the military or if you’re a competitive athlete then you need to take the calculated risks by training at excessively high intensities but the rest of us need to use caution when it comes to our training. The truth is we still have to go to work, care for kids, pay a mortgage/rent, etc. so exercise related injuries need to be avoided at all costs. In 2017, the 30+ crowd continue to buy into the lie that they need to train at max intensities every workout which often does more harm than good. Unfortunately, most adults will get injured from their exercise program in 2017, which always slows down your ability to lose weight. As we’ll always say at Fuse, train smart, then train hard.
