People often ask us what’s the fastest way to get fit. They want to know what diet and workout they should do to make everything better. While we know they are hoping for a simple answer the truth is there’s not a one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to food and fitness. What works for one body may not work as well for another.

That said, most people who are truly fit year round do follow very similar habits which seem to be what separates them from everyone else.

Take a peek with the following 7 Habits of Highly Fit People…

Fit Habit #1: They do NOT Have Junk In Their Kitchen

Fit people know that if they keep junk food in the house they will eat it sooner or later. So they don’t buy any. Rid your home of chips, cookies, candy, baked goods, pre-packaged snacks and anything else that belongs in a vending machine.

Does this mean you can no longer have your favorite pizza or ice cream? Absolutely not. Plan to have 2-3 cheats a week but be sure to go out to get these treats. Having 24/7 access to them is a bad idea that most fit people fully understand.

Fit Habit #2: They Have Priorities

Fit people make exercise a priority. Along with keeping a job, paying the bills and going to the doctor, exercise is an important part of their lives. What we’ve found at Fuse is that fit people put exercise before leisure time. Sure fit people enjoy leisure time, but it is scheduled around or with their workout.

Treat exercise time with the same importance that you would a business meeting or a meeting with a close friend. Put it on your calendar and stick to it!

Fit Habit #3: They Stop Eating Before They’re Full
Fit people stop eating before they feel like they’re going to burst. Sound simple? It is, but how many times have you stuffed yourself simply to clear your plate? Or how many times have you eaten another piece of cake despite being stuffed? Stop when you get to about 75% full this week and you’ll soon notice you don’t need the excess food.

Fit Habit #4: They Train With A Purpose

Some people still believe that all workout options are equal in their effectiveness. This actually couldn’t be further from the truth. That would be like saying all food options are basically the same, which we all know is untrue. Getting the human body fatigued is very easy. You can’t use fatigue and sweat as a good indicator of an effective workout, which is very surprising to most people.

A better indicator of your success is if your form and technique has improved. Think about this for a second. Any sport, martial art or other field that requires physical activity focuses on improving the person’s skills, not just getting them tired.

Change your mindset when it comes to your workout. Focus less on how tired you’re getting and more on how much you’re improving. Sure, you’ll likely get tired at some point but don’t let this be how you measure the success of a workout.

Fit Habit #5: They Don’t Eat and Watch

Fit people know that eating in front of the TV is mindless eating. When your attention is on your entertainment you’ll be less tuned in to what and how much ends up in your mouth. Eat before or after your entertainment to stop this from happening. We’ve all sat down with a bag of something only to realize it’s almost gone by the end of the show. This might be the easiest habit to correct so focus on this one first.

Fit Habit #6: They Drink Water
Fit people drink lots of water. And not just in addition to other beverages, but instead of them. Water is their main drink, while other drinks are occasional treats. Calorie-filled drinks are one of the quickest ways to consume excess calories which quickly turn into fat.

Consider water your beverage of choice. Drink plenty of it each day and drink other beverages only a few times each week.

Fit Habit #7: They Are Supported
Most fit people don’t leave their motivation to chance. They know that if their coach or workout partner is waiting for them, then they are less likely to skip a workout. It is so easy to hit snooze or to talk yourself out of training as soon as your backside hits the couch after work. Fit people take the option of skipping out of the equation.
