So we’re a bit biased, but the crew at Fuse believe purchasing a fitness/health based gift for friends this holiday season is the way to go. It’s virtually the best route to take since your gift if put to use, can have a significant impact on your loved one’s overall health for years to come.

The questions is, which fitness based gifts are actually worth getting? With an endless amount of ineffective fitness products and equipment on the market you’ll need a checklist that will point you in the right direction to ensure you’re not throwing away your hard earned cash.

The list below includes some of the most affordable health and fitness based products on the market. We even went as far as telling you which people would best benefit from it:)

#10 Minimalist Training Shoes

Regardless what some say, your training shoes will make a significant impact on your training sessions. The days of wearing the thick heeled running shoes to perform strength and conditioning based exercises are long gone. Minimalist shoes will give you the edge since they allow your foot to be closer to the ground. The less shoe, the more action your feet get, which is a major benefit to training in minimalist shoes. There are tons of good options but we often buy New Balance Minimalist or Inov-8 for our preferred training shoes. Do a quick google search for these brands and you’ll see they come in many different sizes, styles and colors.

Minimalist shoes are perfect for someone who has started training and is already motivated. While they would be a great gift for a fitness novice it may not be what the person needs right now to jump start their new program.

#9 Fitness Trackers

We’ve been telling people since the day we opened Fuse Fitness Studio that they need to track what needs to be improved. This is true for food, activity, workouts and many other areas in life. Tracking one’s activity can be a very helpful tool for most people. Tracking devices are trending now so there’s a large market for these potentially awesome gifts. While we don’t have one name that we would recommend we will tell you that Fitbit, Jawbone, Apple Watch and Misfit are among the leaders in this market. If you’re on a tight budget take a look at Misfit and if you’re looking to spend big take a look at the Apple Watch.

Activity trackers are a great gift for most people, especially those who are analytical and naturally love tracking. That said, if you’re not sure what their thoughts are on these trendy tracking devices we would NOT recommend the Apple Watch since they’re very expensive.

#8 Fitness Clothing

The fitness clothing industry is a massive market with an endless stream of brands and options. This may also be one of the most challenging purchases if you’re not as familiar with your friend’s size and athletic clothing preferences. Some of the more expensive brands right now include Lululemon, Athletica and Nike to name a few. If you’re on a tight budget, check out some of the less expensive brands like Champion, Old Navy, H&M Sport and even Target brands.

New fitness gear is great for any man or woman who loves to add a little style to their workouts. That said, be sure to take a close look at them after their next workout. If they leave the gym with an old cut off t-shirt and basketball shorts they most likely aren’t interested in the brands mentioned above.

#7 Suspension Trainers

Suspension trainers are great for quick workouts on the go. Why? Well, they only weigh a few pounds and only take up as much space as a folded pair of jeans in your suitcase. In addition, they can be suspended from a door or just about any other elevated and stable spot found outdoors. We’ve found that the “WOSS 3000 Equalizer Trainer” is the cheapest options for suspension trainers. They are not a popular name brand and may not be as nice as rings or TRXs but for under $40 you can’t beat it for a quick and affordable stocking stuffer. Go to amazon and do a quick search for them!

Suspension trainers are great if you have a friend who enjoys working out but has to travel often. This mini gym in a bag gives you dozens of exercises that range from beginner to advanced.

#6 Weighted Vests

While a weighted vest is not your typical fitness gift these vests might just be able to give that special someone the edge for their in home or park workouts. Beginners can wear a vest to make a simple 30 minute walk far more challenging while more advanced folks can add them to their pull ups, hill sprints, etc. to make the workout much more challenging. We don’t have a single brand we would recommend but we do like “Hyperwear Hyper Pro Vest” and “HumanX”. These vest can vary from $75 and up.

The weighted vest is great for someone already driven and working out. We would not recommend this to someone who is not motivated since it’s not as appealing as some of the others. Also, a newbie to fitness may think you’re nuts for buying them a weighted vest since it’s not your typical fitness product.

#5 High Quality Resistance Bands

Bands are affordable, portable and can help someone with mobility and strength based exercises. That said, we rarely recommend the bands found in local sporting good stores. We often get our bands from or Do a quick search for “bands” on either site and you’ll see they have a nice selection.

Bands are great for beginners or intermediate friends since they may not provide the level of resistance required for more advanced folks. Although, they could be a great stocking stuffer for someone advanced as well since they can be used for higher level mobility drills.

#4 Ropes

While not as common as some of the other tools, ropes are an excellent tool for providing low impact, recovery day fun. We like the ropes on and Do a quick search for “ropes” you’ll see a nice selection offered by both companies. We often recommend ropes 25 feet or longer since they allow you to perform both climbing and conditioning drills on them.

Ropes are great for friends who are already motivated. If your friend is a beginner or intermediate they can do the conditioning component (making “waves” while holding both ends) while more advanced friends can use them for climbing and rope pulling exercises.

#3 Sandbag

For your fit friends who want a portable tool that can challenge them, sandbags may just be the perfect gift. Sandbags are unique in the sense that the sand in the bag shifts and moves as you use it making a 80lb sandbag feel more like 200lbs. You can find great sandbags at

We are only recommending sandbags for those who are already fit and motivated. We’ve found most beginners don’t like them since the shifting of weight makes learning the exercises even more challenging.

#2 Kettlebell

The kettlebell is one of our favorite tools at Fuse Fitness Studio. Most of the Fuse trainers have one or two kettlebells in the backseat of their SUV since it makes for the near perfect workout anywhere. There are not many tools that are as portable and as effective as kettlebells. The only downside is your friend will need someone to teach them how to properly use them to ensure they are safe.

A kettlebell is the perfect gift for that friend who is highly motivated and ready to learn. If you really want to invest in this special someone, hire a trainer that is certified through the StrongFirst organization to teach them how to use their new kettlebell.

#1 Professional Coaching

For most people, professional coaching is nearly mandatory to ensure they are getting the most out of their training. Sure, a $19 a month gym membership may sound great but it should be avoided for most of the population. Having access to great equipment without understanding how to design a great fitness program is rarely effective. In other words, you’ll have tons of equipment but at the end of the day you’re still not trained on how to design fitness and nutrition programs that work.

And because we love Christmas, we’re going to help share the love this holiday season.
